Hmm numbers don't match? It might be a fun excercise to get some sand paper,
get down in the front floor with a flash light and sand metal behind the
instrument pannel (least likely to be taken to bare metal during a restoration
project). It would be interesting to see if the last colour before next-to
metal primer is purple. Could be someone added the commission number to a
different car. I wish you luck. I just this year discovered that the serial
number stamped into the frame on my Land Rover dosn't match the serial
number on the plate. After owning the LR for 14 years, I suspect I would
have less hassles by letting sleeping serial numbers sleep.
I have though of writing off to the UK to get the build history of both
numbers. I know my LR was originally white & the parts on the LR are IIA
when they are supposed to be II.

Good Luck.
