When I last B&Md about my 1500 Midget, the clutch was still not completely
disengaging after replacing clutch cylinders and the pivot pin on the
throwout bearing fork. I finally broke down and ordered a clutch kit and
took her to the local LBC fixer to do the clutch (I HATE crawling under
and pulling engines....except vw bugs..).

When the engine was pulled the culprits were found. The clutch disk was
almost down to the rivets and the fingers on the pressure plate were severely
worn to about 1/3 of their original thickness. Also both motor mounts were
found to be broken. The flywheel was sent out to be turned, the mounts re
welded. 

While everything was out, I had the mechanic replace the speedo cable, as
the speedo ceased to function (cable wasnt turning) the day before she
went into the garage. The engine went in, and all was back together...

Its nice to have a clutch that works!! Anyway, the speedo cable was not
the culprit, as I found out on the way home. The cable didnt turn when
examined. I guess the drive gear is dead.

QUESTION: How easy is it to replace the drive gear for the speedo cable
with the tranny in the car?

Also, last week the rear tube shock kits from JCW came in, and they went
in in about 2 hrs. Nice ride!!!

If anyone wants more info on the trials and tribulations of the rear shock
kits, send me a line.
