As I interpret it, a roadster has no head (top). A convertible
(which is an American term) has a head that is "convertible".
That is, a car with a head that mechanically goes up and down is
termed a drop head coupe'. Side curtains were a practical step
along the way to an all-weather car and played no part in the
designation. The early MG midgets, etc. had convertible top
frames that one folded and REMOVED from the car leaving the
appearance of a true roadster. I know this is picking terms to
bits but if the top is completely removed, is it not then truely
a roadster?
