It might be possible to change the final drive with the gearbos (and
the engine) in the car, but it's pretty easy to pull the engine and that's
definately the right way.
I can't help you out with parts in Oz, but Mini Mania sells old
"magic wand" gearboxes for $25, if you've got 12 inch wheels you can
just get the final drive from a car that used 10 inch wheels (most of the
$25 gearboxes will be like this) and swap the final drives. If you've
got 10 inch wheels you're probably stuck with buying the gears new.
