A while ago someone printed a comprehensive list of most of the
popular british car parts places with comments describing their
stuff, attitudes etc. I think it was either Roger Garnett
or Mark J. Bradakis. We need to print this list off and on for the
benefit of our new subscribers just to make sure they don't
get taken by the nasty ones. Whoever has this list, could you
please mail it out again. I am printing my own personal list
compiled from various postings for Cory Carpenter who asked
about British Parts.

restoration, such as it is, gets accomplished. A modest suply of used parts,
Triumph only, and plenty of free advice. Good advice extra.

Not recommended, assuming a disgruntled customer hasn't torched the place yet.
Was on the BBB's "Watch Out" list when I was in town, but might be worth it
if no one else has something. New, used and some performance parts.

---------------------------
Triumph Tune

A nice catalog of performance oriented parts for Triumphs. I plan on

This is wherre I bought my 1st TR. They sell & service all kinds
of British cars. You can also mail order parts from them. Their prices
are very reasonable. (ie 164 dollars for a TR-6 carpet set.) I'm pretty
pleased with them.

Mark:

I am the person that posted the articles about having parts sent over from
England. I have one of the catalogues that I use in front of me and just as
an exercise I thought I would compare the prices of some parts.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                                   SPRIDGEBITS Br Victoria
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MG Midget Recon fr shock absorber ~$17 $59
MG Midget NEW fr shock absorber ~$65 $92.50
MG Midget NEW lower A arm ~$80 $118.80
MG Midget Recon brake caliper ~$51 $114.85
MG Midget Rear wheel cylinder ~19 $28.50
MG Midget Vinyl convertible top ~$75 $144.95

The prices quoted for Spridgebits include 15% VAT which one does not have to
pay when ordering from abroad (similar to out of state purchases) but I have
included it because the postage from England (surface mail) usually is about
15%. I have found that it takes about 4-6 weeks for parts to arrive but
if they are fairly light in weight I have them air mailed which takes ~2 weeks.
Of course if I am desperate for a parts then the local shop is useful but
very expensive.

There are better deals on big items like cylinder heads and engine blocks
although they are a bit of a pain to get through US customs. As an example,
over the Christmas period I decided that I had to have my 3.0l Essex engine
rebuilt and the lowest quote I got was for $3000. So armed with a parts
book I ordered all the necessary parts from England and the total for
parts was $800. So although I have to do the work myself I have managed
to save myself $2200. The parts arrived 8 weeks after I initially
ordered them.

The crankshaft arrived, believe it or not by regular post !!! Our poor
postman was REALLY glad to when he delivered it !!!!.

I can go on, giving example after example, but I think you get the general
picture.

For those interested the place I deal with for MG parts is
Spridgebits Ltd,
121/123 Church Hill Rd,
Handsworth,
Birmingham B20 3PY
England.

Tel 021-554-2033.

Best of luck

Gerry.
