I just had my car aligned yesterday at Custom Alignment in Mt. View. They
were highly recommended by Charlie Davis. They seem to have done a pretty
good job, and payed attention to details. (that I'd forgotten too...)
They noticed that the nuts on the tensions rods were slightly loose
due to the quality roads I drive on. (thanks Cal Trans...) The result was
a gradual change in caster that gave me some toe out. This gave me
some real squirelly handling, which is why I decided to have it checked.
They also adjusted the steering box and topped off the gear oil in it.
The difference on the freeway is amazing. I can actually take my hands off
the wheel again without fear of a wild ride following the next groove that
comes up in the road! It's unbelivable how one adjusts to gradual changes in
handling. The only complaint I have is that the assistant guiding the
mechanic on the rack misjudged the ride height (lack of it...) and didn't flip
to wheel stop to the lower position. This took a chunk out of the bottom
lip of my front spoiler. Anyway I'll go there again, next time *I'll* make sure
the rack is set right... The charge for the alignment was $55., not as cheap
as my old favorite ($29) but they sold their business....
