Information needed about floor tubs

Hello,
I recently purchased #901 and the floor tubs where they come up and meet 
the door have split from the frame. The rivets have pulled out but there 
is also a big gap (maybe almost 3/4 inch in some spots). Should I try to 
muscle this gap back together and re-fasten it or should I put some kind 
of spacer  in it to make fill in the gap? Any help I can get will be 
greatly appreciated.
