On my 76 MGB I just finished replacing my brakes front and rear as well as =
flushing the fluid. Pretty easy with an extra set of hands. I'm also cons=
idering switching out to steel brake lines but would imagine that's a bit m=
ore of a task. I would also be interested in hearing from someone who has =
some experience with that.

Jay here of Park City Cars and Coffee. I'm planning a road trip to Lake Su=
perior in early June. Getting my 1980 MGB in order.

Other than new tires (definately needed), what advice do you all have (deca=
des of experience over me) that I should do prior to hittin' the road? I'v=
e replaced the belt, valve cover gasket, plugs and wires, two big hoses and=
flushed the radiator. Car runs well, 3000rpm at 60mph. Smooth ride with =
no wobbling or any other noticeable problems.

It does have a little minor backfiring issue (little 'putt, putt, putt' exh=
aust sounds when going fast downhill and easing off the throttle), but I'm =
guessing this is okay due to living at 7000' and this trip is heading down =
to much lower altitudes. Plugs are always a little carbon black when I cha=
nge them, but my understanding is that rich is better than lean (due to pos=
sible high engine temps). Advice on this?

I've wondered about flushing the brake system and changing front pads. Is =
this hard to do in an MG? I've changed front pads in an old van a while ag=
o. Also wonder about changing front brake lines to steel--is this worth it=
? Pros/cons to this?

Please share your thoughts, and also let me know if it's easy to do or if I=
should take it to someone like Bailey's (SLC) or Mercer (P.C. closer). Th=
anks for your input. So many of you guys are wonderful resources to us you=
nger members of the club.
