Larry Dober

September 29, 1948 - March 6, 2007

Age 58, Resident of Alamo

On March 6, Larry Dober passed away after a battle with melanoma and leukemia.
An amateur auto racer and car enthusiast, Larry raced quarter-midgets on dirt
tracks in Illinois beginning at age seven, and many, many different Corvettes
in autocross and road racing throughout his life, with SCCA and other groups.
He was his own mechanic, built his last ZR-1 race car frame-up, and was
working on two Z06 builds when he became ill. He participated in many events,
volunteered at the Danville Hot Summer Nights car show and was one of the
founding organizers of the Danville D'Elegance exotic car show benefiting the
Parkinson's Institute.

A real estate broker and resident of Contra Costa County for over 30 years,
Larry was born and raised in Tinley Park, Illinois. Larry served his country
in the US Navy in Vietnam and moved to California with United Airlines,
starting his career in real estate when they wanted to transfer him back to
Chicago. The son of one of the first professional pilots, Laurence C. Dober,
Sr., Larry was also a pilot and aircraft mechanic with a degree in aviation.

Larry will be missed by his beloved wife Karen, his sister and brother-in-law
and nieces and nephews in Illinois, his mother-in-law, father-in-law, sisters
and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews on the West Coast, and his many,
many, many good friends.

A memorial open house will be held at his home in Alamo on Sunday, March 25
from 2 pm to 6 pm, with words at 3 pm, followed by a military internment at
the San Joaquin National Cemetery on Monday, March 26 at 1 pm.

Memorial contributions to the National Cancer Institute or the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society are appreciated.
