"Mark Daddio just drove off with a new car after winning the Mazda Rev It
Up nationals this morning in the Laguna Seca paddock. He won by a margin
of 1.1 seconds out of 4 combined laps, each roughly in the 36 second range.
He didn't hit a SINGLE cone all day, until his very last lap at which
point he had already won.

He was even better than that, turning several under 36-second runs in the
35s.
Only one other competitor turned a run in the 35s. As I recall Mike King
did one of those while Daddio consisently turned in the 35s on each of the
three levels.
It was a remarkable performance. King ended up in second place.
In addition to the car, a Mazda 6, Daddio also won four Falken
tires. The good news is the car and tires will be delivered to his home in
Connecticutt. With lots of encouragement, Daddio spun several victory spins
in the infield after the win.
Some very nice prizes were also collected by the 11th through 20th
place finishers.
The margin between 10th and 11th was about .05. 10th went to the next
round; 11th didn't. No competitor went home empty handed.
The whole 15-city, 20-week campaign was conducted in a very classy
way by Mazda from the beginning 20 weeks ago at Alameda Point through to
the end at Mazda Raceway-Laguna Seca.. The whole point was to demonstrate
the good qualities of the new Mazda 6.
It was fun to watch the proceedings from the rear balcony of
Laguna's luxury suites.
The one thing we missed was the elaborate scoreboard seen at the
first event in Alameda. By the time they got back to the west coast the
display was more basic, offering the time to three places.
It was a very safely run event. There was more than adequate
shut-down room after you crossed the finish line, for example. Mazda and
their crew did an outstanding organization job.
