I'm looking for a few could autocross coaches to be
involved in something a little bit "different," and
hopefully fun.

A January autocross school is impossible as it turns
out so the Thursday before the Boondoggle by the Bay,
SFR will host a free autocross "workshop" called
"Boondoggle for Beginners", to be held at Rickey's in
San Leandro. We'll explore all the basics of what
makes autocross really fun while we munch on Rickey's
famed burgers. Topics will include:

1) A three-minute History of Autocross (contrary to
urban legend, it was not invented by John Kelly, or
even Al Gore) :)

2) The joys of working the course.

3) Timing and scoring made easy.

4) Entry Cards 101.

5) Driving basics, such as:
   a) What is an apex?
   b) How can I sit in the car like a cool person?
   c) How do real professionals steer a car?
   d) Just what do they mean by "looking ahead"?

And many more fun and fascinating topics, things that
many beginners surely must wonder about. We'll answer
all of these questions and more in a relaxed and
informal environment where no one will feel judged or
pressured or intimidated (I hope!).

I'll be doing most of the presentation, but I'll
welcome any input from our coaching team, and I am
MORE than willing to share the stage. I'd like this to
be a collaborative effort, yet organized so we don't
ramble endlessly into the night. The focus is on just
the basics. We will NOT dissect a course and debate
lines.

So, this is what I'm looking for at this time: a few
good people to act as driving coaches/mentors for the
workshop's attendees. Tasks would include:

-Answering questions at the workshop, and maybe even
getting up and speaking.
-Being available at the Boondoggle and future events
to ride with the mentees, and also letting them ride
with you.
-Providing fun and friendly atmosphere for all!

What I want most of all is a Thursday evening of
laughs and stories so that all attendees will feel
really excited about what might hopefully be their
first autocross. Maybe we can even show Carl Merritt's
great autox video that puts Warren Miller to shame.

If this works out well, we can have more workshops
held sporadically through out the year. This is NOT
going to replace future autocross schools.

If coaching is your thing, and you think this sounds
fun, please drop me a line!

Note: Those interested in attending this workshop as a
student, hold off for now. Details to follow!
