The funny thing is, the starter who was simultaneously laughing at me suggested
I try to smooth up my steering, and not be so jerky. The trajedy in this was
how very little control I had. The jerkiness came from difficulties in
maintaining my abdominal strength while accelerating. You see, you turn the
wheel by using your core trunk muscles (abs and lats) and gravity, and then
your abs to get that wheel to turn. You unwind the wheel by gently releasing
your abs as you attempt to gently accelerate.

I forgot to mention this car's power to weight ratio, and just how futile these
efforts were. When I'd accelerate, the wheel would want to snap straight. The
addition of Pep boy shocks also made the transition from turns rather wobbily.

But it was really fun!

when my car didnt have powersteering, i could not predict who could steer it
and who could not. katie actually didnt have much trouble with it. neither
did 95 lb howell.

jim ochi, on the other hand, simply could not turn the wheel. kevin stevens
was also unable to turn.

i think smaller persons know how to use leverage.

Another autocrosser who shall remain nameless once used Vic's car as an
example of why we need separate Ladies classes. There are some cars that
women just cannot drive was the argument, and although I can boast that I
once was .2 behind Vic (I'll remember this forever, while he's likely
stretched it out to two seconds), that car literally tore me apart, and
there, you see? I couldn't drive it as well as a man, therefore, no woman
can drive it as well as a man, therefore, women are slower than men.

I pondered this in all seriousness. And then, I watched National Champion
Josh Sirota drive it (sorry Josh!). Well, then it was the Open class for me
all the way, baby! :)

Before Vic kills us all for dissing his wonderful car, apparently it's MUCH
easier to drive now. He should let me drive it for a more up-to-date review.
:)

Elise drives it much better than I ever did. She makes it look easy. I'm
jealous.
