August 23, 2001 (San Jose, CA)
Tony Colicchio of Berkeley, California will be making his professional
racing
debut by racing in the American LeMans Series (ALMS) at Mazda Raceway/Laguna
Seca in Monterey, CA. this September 7th-9th. Colicchio will be CO-driving
with Robert Orcutt of Santa Cruz, California. The pair will be driving the
#67 Canepa Design / Unichip / Racer's Group Porsche GT3RS from The Racer's
Group of Sonoma, California.
Tony had this to say of his upcoming debut, "I'm looking forward to making a
successful entry into this ultra competitive professional series. I can't
thank Kevin Buckler (owner of The Racers Group) enough for providing me
with
this special opportunity!"
At the previous round of the ALMS (Sears Point) in July, The Racers Group
cars (#66 & #67) placed 7th & 8th respectively.
"I'm looking forward to this opportunity, this is a team that's going to
continue to impress. The team is made up of a totally professional bunch.
It's going to be great fun! I tested with the team in July at Sears Point
and quickly became comfortable with the car. Having completed many laps
that
day, I
feel confident that I won't have much trouble during driving my stint.
Plus,
it's going to be great fun to be paired with Robert, he's been my driving
coach for the past year and helped immensely to make this happen for me.
He's been driving with The Racer's Group for a couple of years now, so I'll
get the added benifit of his workings with this team. This is going to be
so
much fun!" added Colicchio.
The race format is 2hrs-45min. taking place Sunday (September 9th) at
12:00pm
(Pacific). The race will be televised live on NBC.
