I forgot to mention that A Prepared's up next. We've got Bruce Cambern in
his AC Cobra matched with the Lotus 7A of John Kelly.
Now, I don't want to jinx anything, but just consider this, so maybe you'll
be as giddy as I am. My dad's been running close to Nagler all year. Well,
like usually a second or so off. Now, Nagler could have been sandbagging, I
don't know. But the thing is, my mom and dad have been running on these rock
hard tires. For a long time, I thought they were just going slow. I'd watch
them both drive, and I'd think, "Please don't tell me they're getting old."
Then I drove the car at the Divisional. The car understeered so badly, it
was just plain ridiculous. It's not the kind of thing you can correct with
unwinding the wheel and accelerating. The car just wouldn't turn, unless you
really, really slowed down for the turn. When you only have 70hp, this is
not beneficial. I remember that car from its glory days, when you just
floored it and steered really fast. I gained great respect for both my mom
and dad that day, especially since my dad beat me for the weekend. Now I
understood.
Before the last GGF event, they put on the new Goodyears. And the night
before, my dad lowered front end a bit, giving it more camber. Watching both
my mom and dad drive took me back to when I was a little kid. The new tires
were really adhering to the slick asphalt. They were both beaming. This is a
very good sign.
What I'm trying to say is that both my old fart parents have a really good
shot at it. It's pretty much a matter of them getting a good night's sleep,
as they are both senior citizens. By the way, nobody tell them that I'm
saying this stuff. But they need a good night's sleep, and then they need to
drink lots of coffee. And they need to be surrounded by people totally
confident in their abilities, because they've been discouraged for so, so
long.
Of course, that's almost impossible, what with us, in the know, out here in
California, and they're both over there. So, what I'm asking you to do is,
at about 11:00 today, that you stop what you're doing and send them *very
positive vibes." Somehow, this message will be transmitted through the
earth's airwaves, straight to their grid spots in Topeka.
So, everybody imagine Li'l Stroker tearing through the chicanes, and chant
to yourself, "Go Li'l Stroker, Go Li'l Stroker." Do this at approximately 11
o'clock, and then at hourly intervals after that.
I think we'll see the results.
