Slotted is legal in vintage, PCA & SCCA. Don't know about others. At least for 
911's the default replacement rotors are slotted. 

The machine work is very inexpensive for sloting if the shop is already setup 
to do it for a given rotor.

Two perpendicular eliptical ovals is a common sloting pattern.
