We all know that insurance companies are not overly fond of sports
cars... I've even run across a few that will not insure my Rx7s, despite
my good driving record (they told me they "don't do" sports cars).

Anyway, my point is that this imaginary new SCCA insurance company would
be insuring mostly sports cars, which, according to other agencies
wouldn't be a really safe bet.

However, it would be very interesting to know the numbers on accidents
in sports cars driven by SCCA members, or more importantly SCCA members
that are experienced road racers, autocrossers, rally drivers, etc.

Do we avoid accidents more often because of our experience and practiced
reflexes? or are we in more accidents because we are used to driving
closer to the limits of the car and tend to do so in public? or do
things average out to make SCCA members, in general, no different than
everyone else?

Personally, I have avoided several accidents in the past and I'm fairly
certain that I could not have done so without my autocross experience.
Additionally, I think I tend to drive a little more conservatively on
public roads because I know what unexpected things like gravel, dirt,
oil, etc. can do when driving a car near the limit.

Anyone else have any opinions (or facts) on this?
