I know why.
Suppose some had advance knowledge that the cantilevers were going away,
and that there was no rule forthcoming to allow the wider wheels....
You could "stock up" on the cantilevers while available, forcing those you
hoarded out of tires to run inferior ones.
Yes, it would be OK, after all the cantilever worked themselves out of the
system, but those would some be some damn unfair years....
It's not like it's just POOF! and they all disappear.....
