I don't know why. Steve has proven to be a very switched on individual.

I wouldn't expect there would be. There are some cost savings to be had if
the National Staff are co-located with the events, but if the differences
in rents, taxes etc are large enough, these savings could very well be
trivial in the Bigger Picture.

What I find more interesting is the possibility of ancillery deals. For
example, if the Birmingham and Atlanta deals are offering lower rents and
taxes, then I'd pitch Topeka with the requirement that our portion of
Forbes Field be repaired/resurfaced to military grade standards, that some
additional facilities be added (grandstands, porcelin) and so on.

Also interesting is the potential networking that could come about by
having SCCA headquarters relocated to the heart of NASCAR Country. There's
a lot of Cup tracks that either have or could have paved infields or
infield road courses. Free up a few million bucks, and suddenly we have the
means to offer some of these facilities incentive to add the kinds of
extras we require.

I for one would not complain if a Cup track (perhaps one that lost its Cup
race?) paved its entire infield, and we ran Nationals in it.....

Not to mention that a trip down South come January is both closer and more
attractive a place for the National Convention than Denver.

And if you REALLY want to stretch things, an increased awareness of what we
do in the roundy-round ranks might translate to more opportunities up the
ladder.
