event without 2 separate courses and head to head competition with the
first car across the finish line winning. No times to add together to
determine a winner. No differences between two courses to account for.
How can this be? The LTBMotorsport.com Summer Saturday Shootout series
(June 9th, July 7th and August 18th) is run on one course with two start
areas side by side 90 degrees from the course. Both cars negotiate
exactly the same course but are, in effect, half way around the course
from each other. The finish lines are situated in such a way that they
are in a line with each other so judges can tell which car finishes
first.
New for this series is a timed delay system to handicap between classes.
Just like Pro Solo the slower class car will get a head start on faster
classed cars. This isn't a personal "dial-in" as in bracket drags but a
handicap based on classes (we use the RTP index).
Also, new for this series is qualifying for brackets and bracket
"seeding." This qualifying will be just like a standard Solo II autocross
with 2 runs per driver run at the beginning of the day. The top 4 RTP
indexed qualifiers will be the #1 seeded drivers in each of the 4
brackets. The next 4 qualifiers will be the #2 seeds, the following 4
qualifiers will be the #3 seeds and so on down to the 16th seed for each
group.
In the bracket competition the #1 seed will run first against the #16
seed (#2 vs. #15; #3 vs. #14; #4 vs. #13 and so on) in a double
elimination tournament for each bracket.
The 4 bracket winners will run in a single elimination bracket to
determine the top winner of the day.
A double elimination Consolation bracket will be for the 16 drivers
eliminated first from the regular brackets. This bracket will run for
trophies (1st to 4th place).
If you figure it all out, all drivers will get AT LEAST 6 runs (2
qualifying runs, 2 runs minimum if eliminated right away in the bracket
competition, 2 runs minimum if eliminated right away in the Consolation
bracket). At most, only 4 drivers might fall into this situation. Most
drivers will get many more than 6 runs.
