The car that won the CSP Nationals was at a DC region event last weekend.
Lets see where to start... all allowable (and probably very expensive)
suspension mods, gutted interior, roll cage, racing seat, hoosiers. As for
the engine: Header, Exhaust, Electromotive TEC-II, Inividual throttle
bodies, Not-Stock Injectors (at least i dont think they were), no air
cleaners, just dryer ducting running from two locations in the bumper to in
behind the air-horns for the throttle bodies. The guy said the total
electromotive+manifold/individual tbodies+dyno time and tuning cost him
$3500. He would not reveal HP numbers though (if i spent that much and wasnt
making 200 FWHP i wouldnt say either). However, he did tell me that they
(him and his crew) run another CRX, prepared the same way (same motor setup
and gutted interior) and it runs 13.3@103. This would lead me to believe
that if the car weighs in at 1800lbs, its producing 150HP. If not more.
Draw your own conclusions. Yes, this is all in SP category. I am pretty
sure stock cams, it idled like a stock honda. Is updating/backdating cams
legal?

As the season draws to a close, I am getting ready to rebuild my CSP '89 CRX
Si engine. While it still runs well, the 120k miles and low oil pressure at
idle when hot is making me nervous!

I've already matched the ports 1 inch into the heads, and I have a header,
K&N filter, adjustable FPR, and other minor external mods.

I've read through the solo rule book, and understand what is there - I can't
up the compression ratio, completely port the heads, Change from a stock
cam, etc. But what about other stuff?

 For example:
The service manual shows a 3-angle valve job. Can I do a 5-angle valve
job?

Must I use stock Honda rings, or can I use Total-Seal piston rings?

Do I have to use stock Honda valves and springs?

    What else works well?

Does the "if it doesn't say you can, you can't" rule apply all the way down
to gaskets, head bolts/studs, bearings, etc?

Another question: a recent Grassroots Motosports article said that while a
stock D16A6 engine puts out ~100 hp, a 'professionally built CSP' engine
would put out ~130hp. Is this strictly from intake and exhaust mods, or are
there other changes that would be made internally? (30% more horsepower
 would definately help!)

Lastly (and maybe too specifically) most of the national-level CRXs I have
seen are using individual throttle bodies and aftermarket ignition/fuel
injection control systems. However, I thought I read that someone recently
won a national event using the stock Honda fuel injection/ignition. Can you
get the power levels required from the stock system?

 Thanks for any input...
