Yes, three weeks is to soon to put wax or any type of protectant on it.

You could purchase a bra for the trip. Installing stongard or similar product 
may be good but they might also trap the solvents that will be coming out of 
your paint for the next 2-3 months. 

Drive slow, avoid following trucks and put a paintsealant on it in 3 months.
