Okay, I read those rule book quotes and interpreted them as only I can.

Now, why couldn't you weld the cage mounting plates in place in addition to
just bolting them to the car?

And if you can weld them in place, show me where there are allowed specs on
these plates.  And if there aren't any maximum specs listed for these plates
then why couldn't I have these plates running the entire length and/or width
of the car from one cage mounting point to the next in an attempt to further
stiffen an otherwise fairly flexible chassis?  Except for that whole extra
weight thing of course.

Aren't illegal "gains" that are the direct result of legal modifications
specifially legal?

Talk to me folks since there sure isn't much autocrossing going on these
days.  :^(
