I wasn't in Ft. Myers ) : but as has been noted, the weather in Meridian did
not play fair across heats. It is also true that certain cars are hurt more
than others in rainy weather. Yes, I'd have LOVED to have AWD in the rain
and I've been bitten far worse in the rain by oversteer than understeer, but
I don't want either AWD or a tendency to understeer every race. It is also
true (sorry, honey) that the best CS drivers weren't in Meridian.

This makes the point that generalizing from any one race (or two races) to
all races is risky business. Not that Driver X isn't terrific, but Driver X
got beaten by four other drivers in Meridian (three in Eclipses, and one in
a Cougar). Looking at the results from the two races:

Fort Myers
G Stock
1 95 Mitsubishi Eclipse
2 96 Ford Probe GT
3 95 Eclipse Mitsubishi
4 96 Chevrolet Camaro
5 97 Acura Integra Type R
6 98 Subaru Impreza RS
7 95 VW GTI VR6

Hmm, the Eclipse won. A Probe was second (back a bit, but second). And the
next two cars were .182 and .355 back from the Probe. And look! That
dreaded Type R was fifth. Maybe it should go to H or E Stock? ( : The A4
didn't even show up--must've known that car had no chance. O.K., so the car
to have in G Stock is an Eclipse. Or maybe a Probe.

Meridian
G Stock
1 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX
2 99 Mercury Cougar
3 95 Eclipse Mitsubishi
4 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse
5 95 Mitsubishi Eclipse
6 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX
7 99 Mercury Cougar
8 96 Ford Probe GT
9 96 Ford Probe GT
10 97 Ford Taurus SH0
11 95 Ford Probe GT
12 98 Mazda 626

Hmm, the Eclipse won, even though Driver A is used to a different car.
Less than a second back and in second place was a Cougar--and look, the
Cougar NOT driven by Driver Q was in seventh--the first non-Eclipse after
that. So the car to have in GS is an Eclipse, or maybe a Cougar. What
happened to the Ft. Myers second place marquee? The Probe was in 8th, 9th,
and 11th? And what's this? NO Integra Type R's? No A4's? Clearly folks
have just given up on those, huh?

I'll shut up now before I'm forcibly reminded that sarcasm (even gently
intended sarcasm) doesn't translate well in E-mail. GS may be one of the
classes without a clear overdog, where the winning car depends on 1) the
driver, 2) the course, 3) the driver, 4) the weather, and 5) the driver.
(Not that all of these aren't important in every other class, too.) I
really think the Eclipse would be pretty out of place in either CS or DS and
that it seems to fit pretty well in GS.

Freely admitting that Driver X, Driver A, and Driver Q would beat me, but
that doesn't mean that their *cars* belong in CS--just that they are much
better *drivers* than I am,
