Well .... all cars have a class in Solo II. It's just that some are
competitively classed and other aren't. The vast majority of
uncompetitively classed cars are in those straits because they would be
too fast for the lower class and too slow for the higher class, thus
they are conservatively classed into the faster class.
In Mod classes, on the surface it looks good to just add/subtract
weight, etc, to even out a vehicle's performance so that more cars can
be placed within the various class structure. However, there are other
factors to deal with. In the case of C Modified, the main factor is
that it is a primarily GCR legal class except for some safety issues.
Thus, any investment in a car in C Mod can be rationalized beyond just
making the car fast for C Mod. The car can then be sold for road
racing and the only changes the road racer has to make are to suspension
tuning and gears. This is a strong, stable class with no shortage of
cars for interested participants. Anyone wanting to get into this class
has a wide choice of chassis and vehicles to choose from.
If someone really desired to race a F2000 in Solo II, they can do so in
B Mod where the car is capable in GCR form of trophying toward the
bottom of the trophies. Furthermore, the Solo II BM rules allow
changes to be made to the F2000 which would make it competitive for a
top trophy in that class. And if we are prepared to ADD weight to the
F2000 to run in C Mod, then we should be prepared to REDUCE weight for
the F2000 for B Mod (along with the other changes already allowed for
BM). There is no need to run the car in CM and potentially upset the
stability of a healthy class.
