Dan I made mine from Burl Redwwood. A friend was vacationing in Oregon and
brought me back a good plank. I had it spit into two planks.  I also made a
sixteenth inch aluminum backing that I epoxied to the redwood and then
drilled the perimeter for stainless socket-head screws. If your board is too
short I would join the two and at the joint I would make a strip of polished
aluminum to cover it. I also used  a very good spar-varnish for the finish.
I don't think anyone could reproduce my dash for the cost I have.  Also it
was fun doing the project. Good luck  TC
