You could also coat them with Jet Hot or other ceramic type coatings.  They
are also supposed to reduce heat and they will look attractive.

For what it's worth, I wrapped my stainless steel headers in the
asbestos-like header tape. There is a significant decrease in heat
around the carbs and the alternator as a result.  Those headers very
nearly wrap around the alt, so high heat could likely be a problem.
