Aloha Doug,
The big differences were the so-called '74.5 cars have the higher bumper
with parking lights mounted into bumper cutouts. I assume it was done to meet
new US safety specs that went into effect in the summer of 1974. This series
started at CF27001U and I have CF27006U which has AUG 1974 on the Commission
plate. It has the 1974 pollution set-up and was/is titled as a 1974. Another
difference from the '74s was the rear TRIUMPH nameplate was centered below the
rear bumper. I think the front badge went to a stick-on TR6 label at 27001
along with other minor changes; maybe someone has already compiled a list.
The next 'series' started at CF35001 for the 1975 model year; maybe someone
who has an early one can supply a date. It had the air pump set-up, so I
guess that change was made to meet new US pollution specs. I'm no expert but
I'm told the overlap between the '74, '74.5, and '75 series during production
makes it hard to fix definite change points for each detail. The "74.5" is an
unofficial (AFAIK) designation but is a convenient way to separate the cars
when ordering parts, etc.
Just another interesting chapter in the TR6 saga!
Jeff
