Unfortunately, many of these older 'trophy' tires are unsafe. Last year, 
ABC News
did a 20/20 investigation revealing that  tires more than six years old 
should be
thrown away (recycled) as they have started to dry out, become less 
elastic, and
could have their tread separate at any time. Doesn't matter  how much 
tread is
left or how many miles are on them.....

My  Yokohama Avid Touring tires are date code 4302 (43rd week of 2002) and
are almost seven years old. They only have about 5,000 miles on them and 
LOOK
great but it's time to buy a new set. Far cheaper than replacing my car 
and/or
risking my life... Let the buyer beware....
