I would say the answer was to replace the stock exhaust set up with a suitable 
header and low restriction system. Your email mentioned nothing about the 
exhaust, so I presume the before and after mods dyno readings were with the 
same exhaust.
   
  Also, the subsequent answer may have included shorty air horns for the carbs 
and suitable high flow air filters.
   
  Am I right?
