Bruce and List:

I just finished testing the 123ignition electronic distributor and I love
it! The switchable settings allowed me to test each setting to identify the
best selection. There are four settings for each maximum advance setting.
I started with setting 4 which is 10 degr. Advance at 500-1000 rpm, 16 at
2000 rpm and 30 max degree advance at 4500 rpm. I progressed up each curve
(5,6,7 etc. - all for 30 degr. Max advance) and found that the #6 setting
worked the best. Keep in mind is the best is determined without a dyno and
only by my driving around, listening, and sensing performance. I didn't get
any pinging so I tried the next max advance settings for 33 degree advance
but didn't notice performance improvements. #6 seemed the best to me so
there it is. I am curious is 30 degree max advance at 4500 rpm is enough???
But it seemed to run better than the 33 or 36 max advance settings.

The unit was very easy to install and remove to switch settings. It uses a
Bosch or federated cap and rotor. My motor (CC904L) is now .040 bored over,
shaved head (9.5:1) cam bearings, upgraded street cam (Crane Labs in Daytona
Beach regrind of my stock cam), electric fan, oil cooler, hardened rocker
arms, uprated double valve springs, new pedestals, aluminum spacers, and
awaiting install of new 6-3-1 stainless header and Richard Goods triple
Stromberg carb setup. I am going to have the local muffler shop construct a
single exhaust pipe system that exits on the passenger side and includes
switchable mufflers (one hi flow for autocross and one hi-flow but quieter
version for interstate traveling. The web site for the dizzy is:

That's all for now. Happy Super Bowl Sunday from Florida!

Jim: Please let the list know your results when you're up and running with
the new setup.

Eventually I'll go either with 123 or Mallory Unilite distributor. Both
need electric tach. The screwdriver advance adjustment on the 123 sounds
neat. I believe the Mallory comes with 32 degrees advance at 3100 rpm,
which I would guess would be a great improvement over my stock Lucas. The
123 uses Bosch rotor and cap while Mallory uses Mallory stuff.

I suppose a dyno would be very handy for tuning these things.

I have a Crane 3000 electronic ignition which is extremely reliable.

advance.
