I've been talking offline to a fellow lister about conv top windshield
weatherseal recently purchased. His car is offsite and I am asking your
help with the correct placement of the rubber seal (slides into riveted
channels on underside of top)
His reponse to my (edited) email at bottom:
I wish I could give you a definite answer on this one... I've actually
put the car to bed for the winter here, and it's unfortunately not my
garage its in (read: 1/2 hour away). If memory serves me it all looks
sorta like this:

i.e. The grove has a longer rounded side which I think faces forwards,
and a short stub side that faces the back.
You may want to confirm this with the list as I really am doing this
from memory...

I finally got around to installing the weatherseal and you were right, I
found the existing holes and riveted the channels without difficulty.
I used wd40(great advise) and the rubber slid in without much fuss as
well.
Here's the problem(?). I installed the rubber in a way that appeared
to conform to the shape of the top and windshield. However, once the
top clamped down there was a lot of daylight between the two.
I removed the weather-strip and flipped it over and installed in what
appears to be backward but produced what looks like a tight seal ...no
more daylight(have yet to rain test).
In my first attempt, I placed the rubber on the windshield top frame, to
see how
it would rest once installed. As the groove in the rubber fit
snugly over the bump on the frame(groove facing down) I assumed
this was the correct position. After the second try (the way it is now)
the groove actually faces
forward and collapses on itself once the top is clamped down .
Assuming that you can make out what I am trying to describe, how is
yours installed and how weathertight?
More importanlty and this is for the list what is one to do if the correct
installation pruduces absolutley no weatherseal
