        If it is not coming off easily, then the woodruff key is
misaligned in the crank snout.
Push the gear onto the crank as far as it will go to expose the front
tip of woodruff key. Tap the exposed end of the woodruff key into the
crank. It may also move towards the engine slightly as you tap it into
the crank. Don't whack it, a few taps with a suitable punch is all it
should take. 
        Then try removing the gear again..

I'm having a LOT of trouble removing the crank timing sprocket from the 
shaft.  The cam spocket and chain came off very easily, but I can not
budge 
the crank spocket.  I am using a pulley/gear puller, but to no avail.
Any 
suggestion?
