Walt,
Most likely the clamp that holds the speedo to the dash is still stuck in place
despite the fact that you have removed the nut. On the stuck side feel along
the threaded rod until you find the little clamp then work it back and forth a
little until it loosens and backs off the threaded rod a little and the speedo
should pop out. The speedo might be stuck on the outside of the dash by
something but doubtful since I would imagine it would come apart long before
the dash started to bend. If you contort yourself under the dash with a
trouble light or flashlight you should be able to see visually what you are
doing.
