        Folks:

Having recently resolved my fuel mixture problem by using some
different needles in my ZS carbs, I am anxious to root out any
additional power/tuning problems on my lightly modified 1974 engine. My
mods are:

        1. 270 degree cam
        2. 3-angle valve job
        3. Pocket port
        4. K&N air cleaners
        5. Lightened flywheel
        6. 9.6:1 compression ratio
        7. B1AR needles in ZS carbs

I have been reading David Vizard (my hero!) and making sure you
have optimum ignition is an important part of getting the most from your
motor.
Best I can tell, you need about 34-38 degrees of total
mechanical advance, but this number varies based on a variety of
factors. So I thought I would check out my disti. Well, I have a 13
degree cam, so my total advance at the crank is 26 degrees plus my
initial dynamic advance of 12 degrees, which means I come in right at 38
degrees. Hmm.
1974 was a heavily 'desmogged' motor, so since it has 38 degrees
out of the box, maybe I should aim for even more advance? I left the
disti alone, thinking I need more information before I simply start
adding more advance. I had expected to find only 20 degrees of advance
instead of 26, so the wind really came out of my sails since my 'mod'
had in effect already be done at the factory.
        Here are my questions:

        1. Anyone out there recurved their disti? How much total advance
did you use?
        2. I would like to try some different springs for the advance
weights. Where
can I get some springs for the advance weights?

        Thanks for any help,

        Vance
