Water pump question

I'm installing a new water pump and have a few questions.  First, what's the
possibility of the water pump body to engine block gasket springing a leak?
I'm guessing my leak was the water pump itself which is the reason I am
replacing it.  Should I replace the engine block gasket as well?

 

Also, as far as seating the water pump gasket, will turning it fast by hand
suffice?  Or does it need to be at a higher RPM?
