The oil temp sensors must be fully immersed in the medium to work
properly. The sump is def. the most suitable location for a temp sensor.
If youwanted to put one before/after an oil cooler, you could make up a
manifold fairly easily.
I would not run an oil temp. sensor in the main oil gallery.
Note: the sump pans come in two flavors, with the oil drain on the front
of the pan and with the drain on the driver's side of the pan (driver as
in LHD cars). There is a little dimple in the pan where the drain plug
should go. WELD ON A BUNG and thread it as appropriate. I've seen temp
sensors with 1/8 NPT (VDO) and some that are BIG! (1/2" NPT). So the
solution really depends on the sending unit.
