Greg---Given that the factory set this clearance at between .006 and
.008 this would be long life for these washers.

You are right about the lip. The flywheel must be removed to get to this
bushing.
<The flywheel is glazed over where the clutch disk contacts the
flywheel. Does one rough up the glazed area with coarse sandpaper with
sanding block or have the flywheel turned?>
Unless the flywheel shows a measureable worn area where the disc
engages, you can leave it as is. (Sanding optional)
