very stiff window regulator - lubrication required or more?

Both the window regulators on my TR-250 are quite hard to operate.  Hard
enough that neither have knobs any longer.  Before I tear apart my doors,
can someone suggest whether they are just in need of lubrication or if more
serious voodoo (voodoo of the monetary variety) will be required?
