Walt,
The Plinth in my '72 Project was the color of the interior. Although it
has been a few years since I actually have laid eyes on it, if I recall
correctly, it was covered in a fabric (almost a velour texture).
As to the "tyre" plate on the glovebox door, in the '72, it is "affixed"
with adhesive. The position is such that it can be read when the door is
open, and placed centrally on the door, slightly closer to the "box" lock
- and slightly away from the hinge side of the door.
