Oil or Grease

Several times on the list someone mentions what lubrication should be in the
front suspension trunnion - oil or grease. I need to replace one of the
trunnions. What difference does it make whether it is oil or grease and if
it is oil, how do you get oil through a grease nipple as recommended in the
Bentley manual?
