Thanks to everyone who responded to my seal question. Bob, how does one
locate this vent? I didn't find anything in the usual manuals. The gamble now
is I'm in the middle of a resto and the tranny cover plate is accessible
whereas if I clean a vent, and not change the seals?? you get the picture
Murphys' Law.
Thanks
Cliff

Subject: Re: Leaking shifter rod seals
Hi,
Before you go crazy replacing the shifter rod seals, make sure that the
tranny can vent properly... if the vent hole is plugged, the tranny will
push oil out of the strangest places.
Just something to check before diving into the tranny.
As for replacing the seals themselves, the process i well documented. I
do
understand that some folks have problems getting out the set screws that
hold the shifter forks to the shifter rods (they seem to break easily).
But the job is not rocket science and can actually be done without
removing the tranny - just remove the top cover and work on the shifter
portion on your work bench.
regards,
rml
