Seat Slide

Hi, i'm a proud TR6 '70 owner but i have a little problem. Trying to restore
my car in its original condition if faced this problem :

what material is the original seat slide made of ? is it in alu or steel and
is the original color black or just natural ?

I started wondering when i tried to paint it black, the (car)paint (once dry)
had no grip on the slide, it almost fell of it

Can anyone give me an answer ?
