TR6 top cover plugs

Al, Randall & Cliff, thanks for your replies to my TR6 transmission leak
challenge. Per your advice, I've ordered seals and a top cover gasket
and in the process of tearing down the top cover. For ya'll and anyone
else, how does one get the selector shaft plunger/spring/retaining ball
plugs out of the top cover? Wish I had the screw-in type. And who was
the bean counter at the factory that decided the press plug was an
improvement over the screw plug?
