Hi David and all, (Mike great website - you are really sick) and also Hi
Jamie I'm enjoying and reading trough your blog site(amazing).

Talking of sons and Triumphs - Yes my 23 year old son has decided he will
drive my Red 2500S now - he has his own beloved 97 BMW 328i Manual Coupe
(washed daily I think) but he reckons the 2500S handles better around town
and gets far more admiring comments and offers to buy.

Basically, I believe, he doesn't like all those grubby road miles getting to
his BMW so drives the S instead, so not sure if I should be flattered or
pissed off - never mind he hasn't managed to destroy it yet - it seems to be
one strong car. Hell of a lot more reliable than the BM-er from past
experience. Talk about Lucas "Prince of Darkness" ... I have never seen more
headlights/taillights/fittings and bulbs etc blow than on this BM-er - I
offered if he would like any of my 40 year old Lucas tail light bulbs from
stripped Triumphs.

Talking of sons again - same son - here is a scary story - he ran my car off
a 35 foot high 65-70 degree sheer embankment at 80kmh all four wheels locked
- on the way down luckily was stopped by thick lantana shrubs and then a
another concrete embankment half way down. He climbed out of the car which
had stopped near vertical, then climbed back up the embankment with a sort
of shocked cheesy grin - luckily of course not a scratch on him. To be fair
there was a mechanical failure whereby the accelerator pedal(stopper bolt)
has got stuck in the under carpet foam underfelt so pushed him full throttle
into a curve.

The car was written off obviously but cabin and really the whole body was
well intact...only thing really wrecked was the front suspension
undercarriage as he hit the gutter under full braking - should have used
this as a crash dummy test of sorts. Car was a 72 2.5PI Auto. We salvaged
the engine and many parts - BTW - engine was AOK despite being stuck at full
revs, car near vertical, for about 30 seconds before he managed to turn it
off with the key. PI's rev very hard at near full throttle with no load on
rear wheels.

One interesting thing was the front wheel impact on the concrete gutter was
so severe it smashed the front cast brake disc up like a biscuit... snapped
in multiple places, yet the, notorious for failure, front stub axle had not
broken.

I watched this all unfold as he drove up the road from my home and disappear
over a cliff 150 metres from where I stood - this was a really nasty
experience but he has learnt too slow down a lot - probably was worth the
loss of the car - the insurance paid up as a bonus - main thing he was OK.

Anyway there you go ... another Triumph tale to tell.

Recent losses
6. 2.5 PI over the cliff - see above
7. 72 2.5 PI (overdrive) - converted from BW35 to OD but now sold -
shouldn't have done that. Too much work

I'm still lurking...

2500S with clutch problems, and no time to fix them... Car now normally
driven by teenage sons...

Also have a Stag, with no time to drive it at the moment, and the weather
has been perfect here in NZ of late :(

Hi Joe and Jamie
It would seem it's just the three of us left using this listing, but better
than none.
I'm in the UK, Thanks Jamie for the info about the Triumph models that were
sent out from here, It has filled in a bit of info that sometimes is not
understood about the range exports.

I have a web site with my collection, news, info, photos, etc. I am a real
Triumph nut, sometimes told I need help!! actually I'm quite often told.
