Used to see quite a bit of this back when I working on them in the 1960s.

The carbon brush is a sandwich of soft hard soft, the soft is supposed to
touch the rotor, but can wear or break off leaving the hard centre section
grinding its way through the rotor. Solution is a new brush. Could
recognise this when performing a Crypton check as a stray short horizontal
line would appear on the top right of the screen.

Used to get lots of fails with these angle drives, usually due to poor main
cable or poor routing of the main cable.
Be aware that there are different ones with gearing appropriate for the
final drive ratio.
