I believe the thinking is that a flush may push crap back into the transmission where it could clog oil passageways and cause more damage than it might prevent. I have a couple of Subaru Forresters.

I could never justify that purchase for non-commercial use. One option is to just drop the pan and change the filter. Add a drain plug if not equipped. You certainly leave a lot of old fluid this way

That's pretty much what those instructions do. Running the fluid low isn't really a problem. It's running the pump dry that is the problem. You can't really control the drain rate, because you are us
