I have the H-F 11-gallon steel air tank. It always bled down in about a day, which I attributed to the little plastic twist on/off valve/fitting. So...$35 of brass from Lowes later, I have replicated

Sorry, probably I meant item # 5867T11. But that looks to be the same valve I've got on my portable air tanks that all leak. I wonder if a 1/2" female / male ball valve like item # 47865K43 or 4082T

On my air tank, I simply replaced the hose with a quick-connect hose fitting. If the fill valve doesn't leak, then you can use a double-male fitting to fill the tank, and you shouldn't have to shut i

I probably could have mentioned that. I replaced the original hose with a slightly longer one, and it's got a QD fitting at the end. I fill it with a double male connector from the compressor. I'm pr

I recently bought a Husky brand compressor from Home Depot and a set of fittings from Harbor Freight, but the fittings ("industrial" fittings) don't fit the connector on the compressor. I was told th

I fitted a ball-valve and QD connector to my tank and just left the flimsy screw-valve open. Both the ball-valve and QD connector leak, so the tank still bleeds down slowly. Anyone have any luck with

As far as I know, they deliver more air. Higher pressure attainable, more volume, etc. I'm curious about the 'how', somewhat, but hopefully someone will be along shortly to fill us in. :-) __________

Actually, two-stage compressors are not more efficient. Efficiency decreases with increasing pressure (which generates increasing heat). Two-stage compressors simply provide higher pressure. Most fre

A single-stage squishes the air and shoves it in the tank. A two-stage squishes it somewhat in one cylinder and feeds it to another cylinder that squishes it further, then shoves it in the tank. So,

As noted, it is more efficient at producing higher pressure air. In turn the higher pressure lets more air be stored in a given size of tank. That can be really nice if you are running tools that ta

I probably said that wrong. I get that one cylinder feeds another, and that that (smaller) cylinder can use its smaller size (with the same power behind it) to shove more air into a tank, thus the hi

I believe they are, in fact, sized so each cylinder does roughly equal work for some level of output pressure. On my 2-stage, the high pressure cylinder is quite a bit smaller in diameter (if you lo
