I just took a look at an old Mini Mania catalog and what they have is a "temp guage adapter" or spacer, which screws into the head and accepts the capilary tube from the mechanical water temp guage.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to know. I was thinking of a second water temp guage. I always thought that knowing the temperature at the rad isn't as useful as knowing the temperature in the engine. I

While we're on the subject of guages, does anyone know what substance the reservoir bulb on the water temperature guage contains? Is it ether or alcohol? Is it something I can obtain to repair a coup

The fluid is reagent grade alcohol, and as I recall from an ancient shop manual that the alcohol (don't recall the quantity... sorry) is added via syringe thru the tube at the gage end, and the open
