Listers, I have a fellow T/R 3 owner call last night for info about a 64 T/R 4 tranny w/O.D. (type A) he wants to put in his "3", seems the tranny is about 1/2" longer than the rear trans. mount, nee

Fred, Something seems odd. The A OD unit should fit right up to the same mount as the non-OD trans. This works regardless of TR-3 or 4 origins. There is some play in the bolt holes, maybe your friend

It's true, OD or non-OD makes no difference to the mounting (at least for A type, I assume J type is the same). However, the later synchro-1st tranny used on TR4 and up is around 1/2-3/4" longer tha

Hmmmm, think of the possibilities!?!?! How about swapping a TR-6 chassis to a TR-3 body - all you'd really need to do would be to cut the body in half and weld a 4" section in the middle! Just think

Hey Fred, In addtion to your question, I have a question too. I just had a TR-6 A-type OD installed in my TR-3. After installation, one of the front motor mounts broke. I installed new motor mounts a

How about just slotting the holes in the top of the transmission mount so that they accept the TR4 gearbox?? Some replacement mounts were made this way to accommodate both the 3 and 4 gearboxes with

Different brands of mounts may be made differently, but the ones I have do not have enough metal to elongate the holes by 1/2" without breaking through. Randall
