- Cars that sit over the winter here end up with surface rust on the brake rotors. Any reason that I should not sandblast the rotors to remove it? Bruce Wentzel

- Sandblasting woud not be my choice and unless it is really severe deep piited rust, I'd leave them alone as within the first few times of use, they will be all shiny again. If you really want to do

- Don't bother, Bruce. The first couple of applications of the brakes will shine the rotors back up, and the use of a sandblaster around any seals and bearings exposes them to abrasive damage. Mike

- It's not really necessary. For a street car, just drive it and the rust will come off. For a race car, or a street car with fancy racing pads, you might hit the rotor with a wire brush to knock off
